Swanroe Internet Cooperative is a multi-stakeholder cooperative guided by all its members, while being operated and managed by its worker members.
Worker members are the individuals who lay the fiber, obtain and configure equipment, arrange easements, contract upstream services, and perform all manner of other tasks necessary to implement the plans of the cooperative. The worker members are also responsible for drawing up plans for the future.
Consumer members are individuals, families, other cooperatives, businesses, or other groups. They use the services of the cooperative and vote on which plans adopt.
Becoming a Consumer Member
To utilize the cooperative’s services, you must be a consumer member. New consumer members are approved by the worker membership.
- Consider the Internet access or other services you want.
- Email join@swanroe.net with your address and the services you are interested in.
- A worker member will reply to your email and guide you through the rest of the process. If we are not able to provide you with the services you desire at this time, they will let you know what the impediments are.
- To join the cooperative, you will sign a consumer membership agreement.
- The worker members will set up your service.
- To maintain your membership you pay monthly dues. The worker-members will inform you of what the minimum and recommend dues are based on the services you expect to use.
Becoming a Worker Member
If you want to help provide these services, reach out to join@swanroe.net! We’re not looking for remote worker members at this time, as almost all the work (planing, laying, and splicing fiber is the big thing) requires physical presence.
